To provide every child and student the opportunity to be parented
taught out of love, ending the myth that children can only
respond, learn, and bond through fear-based techniques.

The Mission of BCI

The Beyond Consequences Institute, LLC offers educational materials, training programs and valuable resources for parents, professionals and teachers working with trauma-impacted children. Most of these children have been previously diagnosed with disorders such as reactive attachment disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, bipolar/depression—the list goes on and on.

Many nationally recognized professionals accept and use more traditional fear-based and child-blaming techniques. While some of these methods may appear to help in the short term, in the long run, they simply create more fear in the parent-child relationship. The result is often chaotic and unsafe homes where children continue to spiral out of control.

BCI offers a groundbreaking approach to help even the most difficult children find the stability they need to thrive. Based on neuro-scientific research on emotions and behavior, the Beyond Consequences Model provides a simple yet powerful way to help children with severe behavior issues—both at home and in the classroom. The Beyond Consequences Model has been shown over and over to provide families the solution they’ve been looking for after years of "trying everything and nothing worked."

Meet the BCI Family

Heather Forbes has worked in the field of trauma and healing since 1999. She is an internationally published author on the topics of raising children with difficult and severe behaviors, the impact of trauma on the developing child, adoptive mother- hood, and self-development. Much of her experience and insight on understanding trauma, disruptive behaviors, and adoption-related issues comes from her direct mothering experience of her two adopted children.

Heather T. Forbes, LCSW

Part of the BCI team since 2007, LJ is the one who makes BCI run like the well-oiled machine that it is. From supporting every aspect of online and in-person events to maintaining the company website, there's very little LJ doesn't do to support BCI's mission. As a new mom, LJ is getting a chance to implement what she has learned at BCI the past several years of being "behind the scenes" at BCI trainings and webinars.
